I've just finished reading......
Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, and i am *never* eating a burger or hotdog ever again.
He doesn't try to make the reader a vegetarian or vegan or anything, indeed he eats meat with as much relish as anyone (no pun intended) but he just makes people ask what are really quite obvios questions regarding the globalization of markets and the damage it does to ordinary people around the world, not to mention the actual quality of the meat in the food products themselves.
it's very interesting if a little dry, and all his statements are backed up with copious notes. As he himself states in the afterword "many many people have criticized the book, yet no-one has actually refuted any of the specific claims mad within".
Read it. Your local library should have it in stock or you can reserve it. I just happened to see it in my local library last week and new people had been talking about it and decided to see what all the fuss was about. I'm very glad I did.
